Few of the 40 educator preparation programs in Tennessee effectively prepare teacher candidates to help their students see above average academic success in their first few years on the job. The State Collaborative on Reforming Education released a report Tuesday outlining what more can be done to get fledgling educators ready for the classroom.

"We can do better," said Jamie Woodson, SCORE chief executive officer. "And we can do more across all the state."

The collaborative's report lists eight areas of improvement and lists opportunity for improvements for every institution that is tasked with preparing future teachers, including universities and colleges, districts and the state.
