Man who snuck out of Atlanta prison caught sneaking back in with Cuervo, smokes

A man who snuck out of Atlanta's federal prison - and was caught sneaking back in with a duffle bag full of Jose Cuervo tequila and Newport cigarettes- has pleaded guilty to escape.

Justin B. Stinson escaped the minimum security camp "solely to smuggle contraband back inside it," said U.S. Attorney John A. Horn.

According to a news release, Stinson, 37, was serving time on a conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On the night of Feb. 3, law officers saw Stinson climb through a hole in the prison's inner fence and then clamber over the outer fence. He walked up to a nearby stopped car and was handed a duffle bag and was walking back toward the prison when FBI officers surrounded him.

They found a cellphone, two 1.75 liters of Cuervo, two cartons of cigarettes, four boxes of Black and Mild cigars and various food items, along with a pair of scissors, the release stated.

A federal grand jury indicted Stinson on Feb. 14 on charges of escape and contraband smuggling. He pleaded guilty to one count of escape.

"This case shines a light on a recurring problem with prisoners leaving the camp, which creates safety concerns in the surrounding neighborhoods as well as within the camp itself when inmates return with contraband to feed a thriving black market," Horn said in the release.

Stinson's sentencing is set for June 28.
