A man was shot in his car about noon today near the 3800 block of Alton Park Boulevard.

The victim's car crashed into a pole in front of the Alton Park Church of God. Chattanooga police spokesman Rob Simmons said the victim is in serious condition, and paramedics rushed him to a local hospital.

Simmons was not sure whether the victim crashed his car before or after the shooting. But the victim managed to speak to officers on the scene before going to the hospital.

Investigators are now looking for a Silver Ford Expedition because they believe the driver has a connection to the shooting. Simmons said an off-duty police officer also happened to be nearby when the shooting happened. He is a witness in the case.

The church keeps children as a day care, and some parents arrived after the shooting to pick them up.
