A fiery tractor-trailer crash into a bridge on Interstate 75 in Bradley County, Tennessee, caused the temporary closure of the northbound lanes of the interstate and the road passing over it.

The crash happened about 8:45 p.m. Monday when the big rig, heading south on I-75, crossed into the median and slammed into the middle bridge support of the Harrison Pike overpass at mile marker 23 and burst into flames, according to a statement from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

The driver escaped without injury.

Harrison Pike was closed until the Tennessee Department of Transportation could inspect the bridge and clear it to be reopened.

Officials said that southbound lanes of I-75 were slowed while northbound lanes were closed for a while during cleanup. Bradley County and state agencies worked the accident in a joint effort.

All lanes are open now but the clean up is expected to continue through the night, officials said.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
