Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will be repairing damaged concrete slabs on Interstate 75 over the next several weekends as part of a modification project, according to a news release.
The first section being repaired is on I-75 North between mile marker 2 and mile maker 3 in the East Brainerd Road and Chickamauga Creek area. Those repairs will end at 6 a.m. on Monday. The two right lanes in the area will be closed during repairs and the two left lanes will stay open, according to TDOT.
"Right now they are tentatively scheduled to work in the same area next weekend, then they will take Easter weekend off, and then they will do some work on the southbound side the following weekend," TDOT spokesperson Jennifer Flynn told Times Free Press news partners at WRCB-TV Channel 3.
The contractor primarily will be removing damaged concrete slabs and re-pouring them with new concrete. The work is dependent upon weather conditions and "should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances delay this work, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible," the release states.
The interstate repairs are part of a larger proposal called the I75/I24 Interchange Modification Project. TDOT awarded C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. almost $133 million to complete the project by late summer 2021.
