Thirteen people filed petitions to run for the six seats up for election next year on the Hamilton County school board.

The deadline to file was Thursday. Many of the candidates are parents, several are current or former educators, and one is an incumbent.

When the winners are sworn in next fall, they'll be joining a young school board. With five incumbents not running for reelection, two of the board's 11 members will have been elected before 2022.

School Board Member Jill Black, D-Lookout Mountain, is the sole incumbent whose term is ending and is seeking another.
