A detective from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office was dragged through a parking lot near the 5500 block of Highway 58 by a man attempting to flee in his vehicle during a stop Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

The stop just before 11 a.m. was allegedly connected to a narcotics investigation, the release said.

According to the release, the detective was dragged a short distance and not seriously injured.

Law enforcement took the man who fled the scene into custody after he lost control of his vehicle on Highway 58, according to the release.

A detective fired his gun at the scene, but no injuries were reported, the release said.

Police have not identified the man taken into custody, as the investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
