A new director of public affairs is set join the Chattanooga Police Department, according to a news release Wednesday.

Keaira Turner, a native of Birmingham, has nearly 10 years of experience in strategic communications, focusing on government affairs.

Turner served as the public relations manager for the Birmingham Police Department starting in November 2021, according to a social media post from the department.

She holds a bachelor's and master's degree in communication from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Webster University, according to a LinkedIn profile.

"I look forward to working with CPD and helping carry out Chief (Celeste) Murphy's vision of bringing fresh light and a set of ideas for creating various strategies on communicating what CPD is doing for the community," Turner said in Wednesday's release.

Kevin West, a longtime figure in Chattanooga talk radio, joined the department in the director's position in July. West died in September after what a medical emergency, according to a news release.

Turner will join a team that includes public information officer Sgt. Victor Miller and Austin Riddle, the department's social media coordinator.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press asked for Turner's salary information and was waiting for an answer as of Thursday evening.
