"Dune Part Two" begins screening at the Tennessee Aquarium's IMAX theater this weekend, and the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon will be a weekend full of running-related events. The Chattanooga Football Club will also have a preseason home game against the Birmingham Legion Football Club. Here's this weekend's chronology.


ARTS

— Photographic Society of Chattanooga continues its spring show at the Gallery at Blackwell, 71 Eastgate Loop. Society members will have their work displayed, and prints will be available for purchase. Gallery hours are 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The exhibition will run through May 3. — North River Civic Center, 1009 Executive Drive, Suite 102, Hixson, continues its exhibition, "Fine Art of the West," featuring the works of artist David Fishman that depict "the energy and emotion of the timeless American West." — Institute of Contemporary Art, 752 Vine St., continues its exhibition, "The Dutch House," featuring works by artist Becky Suss inspired by Pulitzer Prize finalist Ann Patchett's 2019 novel of the same name. — In-Town Gallery, 26A Frazier Ave., will conclude Thursday its exhibition, "We (Heart) New Artists," featuring three emerging artists from the Hart Gallery: Anna Mansour, Erica Birch and Sara Coolidge. — Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View, will host "Art, Health & Climate Justice" at 6 p.m. Thursday. This immersive experience, exploring the intersection of art and climate justice as it affects communities of color, is inspired by works in the museum's special exhibit, "Networked Nature," and will feature performances by composer Carl Cadwell. — Southern Adventist University's School of Visual Art and Design will host an opening reception for its exhibition, "Next Stop," at 6 p.m. Thursday in the John C. Williams Art Gallery on the second floor of Brock Hall on campus, 4881 Taylor Circle. The exhibition will feature works by senior graphic design students who are graduating in May. — Tennessee Aquarium, 1 Broad St., will host a presentation by National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore at 6 p.m. Thursday in the River Journey auditorium. The presentation by Sartore will focus on the Photo Ark project, in which Sartore seeks to document all animal species in human care at zoos, aquariums and wildlife sanctuaries around the world. Beginning Friday, the aquarium will exhibit two dozen images from the Photo Ark throughout its campus; the exhibit will continue through the end of the year. — ClearStory Arts, 1673 S. Holtzclaw Ave., will conclude Friday its exhibition, "A Celebration of Chattanooga's Black Artists," featuring works in a variety of mediums, including photography, textiles, paintings and sculptures. Additionally, the gallery will host its First Friday event from 6-8 p.m., featuring open studios, a mini market, live demonstrations and more. Gallery hours are by appointment Tuesday-Friday. — Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St., Dalton, will host an opening reception for its Student Arts Expo at 5:30 p.m. Friday. For March, Arts in Education Month, the guild will display works by public, private and home school students in Dalton and Whitfield and Murray counties. — Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd., will host "Black Imprisonment" at 6 p.m. Thursday. The event will include a screening of the 2016 documentary, "13th," which explores racial inequality as it relates to the American prison system. A community discussion will follow the screening. — Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater, 201 Chestnut St., will begin screening "Dune: Part Two" with showtimes at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, 3:45 and 7 p.m. Friday-Sunday and 6:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The sequel to the 2021 sci-fi film "Dune" continues the journey of Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, as he works with Chani, portrayed by Zendaya, and the Fremen of the desert planet Arrakis to fight against the empire that destroyed the House of Atreides. — Barrelhouse Ballroom, 1501 Long St., will have multiple shows through the weekend. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Tinsley Ellis will perform "An Evening of Acoustic Songs and Stories;" tickets cost $25 in advance or $28 the day of show. At 8 p.m. Friday, Stick Men (Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and Markus Reuter) will perform; tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 the day of show. — Shorter University Chorale will present two concerts in the Chattanooga area this weekend. The concert will feature guest piano soloist Muen Vanessa Wei. The concert will include performances of Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor" and "Symphony No. 2 in E minor." — Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon Weekend will take place from 3-7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday at First Horizon Pavilion, 1826 Reggie White Blvd., and various other locations across Chattanooga. — Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors' Park Stewards is seeking volunteers for the 10th annual Weed Wrangle taking place from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Greenway Farm Park, 3008 Hamill Road, Hixson. — Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a free, one-hour, ranger-led program at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown's Ferry Federal Road Trail, 700 Moccasin Bend Road. The program will focus on the the history, culture and spirit of Cherokee warriors. The program will take place at the terminus of the Brown's Ferry Federal Road Trail, just more than a half mile hike from the trailhead. — Performers, Artists, Parents and Advocates, the school support organization for Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, will host a "Celebration of Creative Arts" fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the school, 1301 Dallas Road. The evening will showcase the achievements of the school's students, while raising funds to enhance creative arts education initiatives at the school. — Southern Adventist University's Student Association will host its third annual International Food Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday at Iles P.E. Center, 4870 University Drive, Collegedale.
