Celebrate the new year by getting out this weekend at the Lula Lake Land Trust, Audubon Acres and more. Or enjoy the seasonal lights while they're still around at Rock City, the Chattanooga Zoo and the Tennessee Valley Railroad. Here's this weekend's chronology.

ARTS

— Photographic Society of Chattanooga continues its holiday show at the Gallery at Blackwell, 71 Eastgate Loop. Society members will have their work displayed, and prints will be available for purchase. Gallery hours are 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The show will run through Feb. 1. — North River Civic Center, 1009 Executive Drive, Suite 102, Hixson, will begin its exhibition "Fine Art of the West" on Friday. The exhibition features the acrylic and oils on canvas works of artist David Fishman, who took inspiration for his art from "the energy and emotion of the timeless American West." There will be an opening reception from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 14. Civic center hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. The exhibition will run through April 1. — In-Town Gallery, 26A Frazier Ave., will host its exhibition "Blank Canvas: Make Your Mark!" through Jan. 31. The exhibition is an interactive experience, featuring a large canvas and various art supplies for visitors to express themselves freely. As the month goes on, the collaborative work will continue to grow. There will be an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Jan. 10. Gallery hours are 11-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. — Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace Road, will begin its exhibition "Vessel," featuring the works of 25 local and national artists, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday. The works in the exhibition showcase a variety of vessels, including ships, buildings, vases, the human body and more. There will be a coffeehouse reception from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 13, featuring live music, stand-up comedy, storytelling and more. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. — Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View, will conclude its exhibition, "Gilded: Contemporary Artists Explore Value and Worth," featuring works created using gold leaf, on Monday. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, closed Tuesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Learn more at huntermuseum.org.

— ClearStory Arts, 1673 S. Holtzclaw Ave., will host its First Friday event from 6-8 p.m. Friday. The event will feature open studios, a mini market, live demos and more. This month's event coincides with the closing reception of the gallery's "Deck the Walls" exhibition, featuring affordable, winter-themed works created by ClearStory artists. — Hunter Museum and Reflection Riding will offer a "Winter Birds in Art and Nature" program from 2-5 p.m. Saturday beginning at the museum, 10 Bluff View. The program will start with a tour of the museum's galleries as participants explore artworks featuring winter birds. Then, the program will reconvene at the Hiwassee Refuge, 545 Priddy Road, Birchwood, where participants will observe the sandhill cranes at the peak of their congregation in the area and learn about the birds from a Reflection Riding employee. — St. Paul's Artist Series continues with a performance by organist Jonathan Dimmock at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St. Dimmock will perform Olivier Messiaen's "The Nativity of the Lord." Dimmock is the principal organist for the Legion of Honor Museum and is an organist for the San Francisco Symphony. — Barrelhouse Ballroom, 1501 Long St., will have two shows this weekend. At 8 p.m. Friday, Broken Hearts, a tribute to Tom Petty, with Rob Alderman and The Unfortunate Return will perform; tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 the day of show. At 9 p.m. Saturday, Back N Black, an ACDC tribute band, with Aunt Betty will perform; tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 the day of show. Learn more at barrelhouseballroom.com.

— Ice on the Landing will continue this weekend with hours from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday at First Horizon Pavilion, 1801 Reggie White Blvd. Beginning Monday, operating hours will be closed Monday, 2-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 2-11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $12-$14 for adults and $10-$12 for children 12 and under. Admission includes skates. Ice on the Landing will be open through Jan. 28. Learn more at iceonthelanding.com.

— Rock City, 1400 Patten Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga., will conclude its Enchanted Garden of Lights for the season Saturday. Operating hours are 4:30-9 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday and 4:30-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. The winter wonderland is illuminated by six distinct holiday realms and features festive fun for all ages. Tickets cost $17.95-$27.95 for regular night admission and $21.95-$31.95 for peak night admission; tickets are sold online only. Learn more at seerockcity.com/lights.

— Tennessee Valley Railroad will have Holiday Lights Train rides at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday at the Grand Junction Depot, 4119 Cromwell Road. The Holiday Lights Train is a 65-minute experience, including a 6-mile roundtrip, four bridge crossings, passage through a pre-Civil War, horseshoe-shaped tunnel and a historic turntable demonstration. Tickets cost $24 for adults and $15 for children. The Holiday Lights Train will run through Jan. 14. Also at the Grand Junction Depot, the railroad will host its Homefront Tea Room experience at 11 a.m. Friday-Sunday. The tea room experience includes a full high tea with savory and sweet food items and a selection of teas, and then attendees can take a 65-minute train ride; tickets cost $55 per person. — Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave., continues its Asian Lantern Festival from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. The festival features more than 30 lanterns and nine interactive displays. The lanterns feature zoo animals, traditional Asian lanterns and natural elements. The festival is ticketed separately and does not include daytime zoo admission; festival tickets cost $13.50-$18.50 for zoo members, $17-$23 for nonmembers. — Collegedale Public Library will host its family-friendly, all-ages Winter-Palooza from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the library, 9318 Apison Pike, Collegedale. The free event will feature a screening of the animated film "Happy Feet," a hot chocolate bar and a diamond painting snowflake craft; the snowflakes include a clip chain. — World of Wheels Custom Auto Show will take place from 3-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Chattanooga Convention Center, 1 Carter Plaza. The auto show will feature a variety of vehicles, activities, celebrity appearances and more. Tickets cost $18 for adults, $5 for children 6-11 and free for children 5 and under; $15 discount adult tickets are available at Chattanooga-area O'Reilly Auto Parts stores. — Cleveland Storytelling Guild will present its annual Old Christmas celebration at 7 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 433 N. Ocoee St., Cleveland. The family-friendly celebration of old Appalachian tradition will feature traditional stories and songs. The event is free to attend, but donations will be accepted. — Lula Lake Land Trust will have its bi-monthly Open Gate Days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its core preserve, 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Visitors can view Lula Lake, the 110-foot Lula Falls and a bluff overlook. Admission is $16. A guided hike is also available for $40, which includes entry to the preserve. Registration is required. — The Chattery will host "Winter Brrrding," an introductory birdwatching class, from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenway Farm, 3008 Hamill Road. During the class, participants will learn how to identify birds and their songs. Field ornithologist Laura Marsh will lead the class. Registration costs $25, and additional proceeds will benefit Nova Conservation, Marsh's organization that supports environmental nonprofits. Learn more at thechattery.org.

— Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a free "Winter Vistas" program at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sherman Reservation, located at the intersection of Lightfoot Mill and North Crest roads. The ranger-led hike will explore the events that occurred on the northern end of Missionary Ridge at Tunnel Hill. The fighting pitted the forces of Union Gen. William T. Sherman against those of Confederate Gen. Patrick Cleburne. The hike will last about 90 minutes and will be less than 1 mile in length. Learn more at nps.gov/chch.

— Dread Hollow will host a New Year's Nightmare haunt from 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday at the haunted attraction, 321 Browns Ferry Road. The haunt will feature two experiences: Camp Dread and Grimsby's Slaughterhouse. There will be three escape room experiences available as well. — Chattanooga and Northern Georgia Bridal Show, hosted by Events Chattanooga, will be from noon-4 p.m. Sunday at the Colonnade, 264 Catoosa Circle, Ringgold, Ga. The show will feature opportunities for soon-to-be brides and grooms to discover venues, photographers, local vendors and more. Attendees will be able to take advantage of exclusive deals at the show. General admission costs $10. Learn more at eventbrite.com.

— Jewish Documentary Film Series, hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga, begins its four-week run Sunday. The films will screen virtually from noon Sunday-noon Friday each week and will screen in-person at 3 p.m. Sunday each week at the Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace Road. The first film is "Generation 1.5," about the immigration of Jews from the former Soviet Union in the '90s and its effects on Israeli society. The in-person screening includes free popcorn and a drink. Tickets cost $12. Learn more at jewishchattanooga.com.

— Audubon Acres will host a "Get Moving!" walk at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at its campus, 900 N. Sanctuary Road. The all-ages walk will take participants through the forest of the sanctuary, providing an opportunity to enjoy fresh air, engage in light conversation and embrace the beauty of the natural surroundings. No prior registration is required, and the walk is rain or shine, except for significant weather. The event is included in admission to the sanctuary; admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5.
