Man shot during Brink’s truck robbery attempt in Chattanooga arrested, facing charges

Kodi Johnson, 30, was shot twice by a guard manning a Brink's truck Tuesday at a Walgreens on East Brainerd Road, according to police.

Johnson also faces potential charges of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawfully possessing a firearm, Chattanooga police said in a news release Thursday.

While the truck was stopped at Walgreens, Johnson allegedly ran at an armed guard coming out of the store with a bag of money in his hand, according to police.

Police said Johnson pointed a gun at the guard and demanded the money bag.

The guard then shot twice at Johnson, hitting him and causing him to fall to the ground. Johnson then got up and walked to a car, got in and left the area.

Dispatchers told police a man arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds that didn't appear to be life-threatening, and officers found the man matched Johnson's description.

The car Johnson used to leave the scene was found abandoned in the 1500 block of Hickory Valley Road, and police said it had previously been reported stolen. Officers are still working to identify the driver of the car, according to Thursday's release.

Police said robbery investigators took out arrest warrants out for Johnson after a preliminary investigation.

He had been transported to the Hamilton County Jail as of Thursday afternoon, police spokesperson Sgt. Victor Miller said in an email, though court and jail records did not show his charges at that time.
