President Donald Trump is showing his support for Bill Lee, who clinched the Tennessee Republican primary Thursday night.

In a tweet Friday, the president said: "Congratulations to Bill Lee of Tennessee on his big primary win for Governor last night. He ran a great campaign and now will finish off the job in November. Bill has my total and enthusiastic Endorsement!"

Lee, a Franklin businessman, defeated U.S. Rep. Diane Black of Gallatin; Knoxville businessman and former Tennessee commissioner of economic and community development Randy Boyd; and state House Speaker Beth Harwell of Nashville.

He now faces Democratic nominee Karl Dean in the Nov. 6 election to succeed the term-limited Republican Gov. Bill Haslam who is winding up his second four-year term. Dean bested state House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh of Ripley in Democrats' primary.
