ORIGINAL STORY: A fire in East Brainerd sent a firefighter and two residents to a local hospital Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the call around 8:55 a.m. at a home in the 1300 block of North Concord Road. An entrapment was also reported.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the house, but one of the firefighters managed to rescue a 10-year-old boy. That firefighter was later taken to a hospital as a precaution and to be treated for minor injuries, but was later released, the release states.

The boy and his 19-year-old brother were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Crews worked for hours to completely extinguish the fire, which is now under investigation. Fire Chief Phil Hyman commended their efforts.

"The crews had a lot of fire showing when they got here, showing from multiple rooms which makes search and rescue much more difficult," Hyman said in the release. "They did an outstanding job when they got here to get to the child inside."

Operations Chief Rick Boatwright recognized the quick thinking of the fire companies.

"Their training and the protective equipment that the department has meant that lives were saved today," he said in the release.

The Red Cross is assisting the family due to the extensive fire and smoke damage to the home.
