A woman is dead and her husband is behind bars following an apparent shooting on Windridge Drive in Sequatchie County, Tennessee.

Sequatchie County Sheriff's deputies found Marcella "Marcy" Renee Ervin, 64, dead inside the home Tuesday after her husband reported to authorities he had shot his wife, Sheriff Bill Phillips said in a news release. The scene on Windridge Drive is about 2 miles north of Dunlap off Smith Mountain Road.

"The husband was taken into custody immediately upon the arrival of the deputies without incident, and the wife was found to be deceased inside the house," Phillips said.

Keith Edward Kopecky, 63, was booked Tuesday on a charge of criminal homicide, according to officials.

Authorities have been told the two were married but that Ervin kept her last name, Phillips said.

Ervin's body has been taken to the state Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy. The chief medical examiner is Dr. Adele Lewis.

"It was a domestic situation, and everything was confined to theses premises. It was an argument, and one thing led to another," Phillips said in a phone interview. "There is no threat to the public, and we have the suspect in custody."

Aside from the victim and suspect, no one else was in the home, he said.

The officers who found the victim deceased observed what appeared to be a bullet wound, he said. Authorities are not releasing the type of gun seized for now, and Phillips declined to speculate on the cause of death pending the outcome of the autopsy.

"We're not releasing anything evidentiary yet," Phillips said. "The victim is dead and had suffered a gunshot wound."

Kopecky remains in the Sequatchie County Jail without bond. He is set to appear Friday in General Sessions Court for a bond hearing and attorney status, Circuit Court Clerk Karen Millsaps said in a phone interview. Kopecky, who has no attorney yet, also faces an appearance Oct. 16 on the charge.
